General FAQ’s
-
What is mixing?
Mixing is the process of combining and balancing individual tracks or "stems" of a song to create a final stereo mix that sounds good on all playback systems.
-
What are stems?
Song stems are individual tracks or elements that make up a complete song. When a song is recorded or produced, it is often broken down into separate audio files, each representing a specific component of the song. These components typically include vocals, drums, bass, guitars, keyboards, and other instruments or sounds.
If you’re unsure how to export your stems from your DAW, contact us telling us what software you use and we can send you tutorials on how to do it!
-
Does the length of my song effect the price?
The pricing structure is determined by the number of stems, as this approach is based on the fundamental principles of audio mixing. The duration of the composition does not impact the pricing as the total amount of audio content remains constant. However, the complexity of the mixing process increases with the number of tracks or stems, requiring greater attention to detail to ensure each element is discernible and harmoniously integrated within the final mix.

How long does it take to complete a mix?
The turnaround time for mixing depends on the complexity of the project and our current workload. We will provide an estimated timeline once we receive your files and project details.
-
What format should I send my files in for mixing?
The best file format to send for mixing is uncompressed WAV or AIFF files, at a sample rate of 44.1kHz or higher. Please do not send MP3s or other compressed formats, as they can result in lower-quality sound.
-
How many revisions are included in my package?
Regarding single-track mixes and masters, the number of revisions is subject to variation, based on the selected package. In the case of projects, the agreed-upon quantity of revisions is established upon receipt of the 'Project Breakdown,' which is issued by the audio engineer before initiating any work.
To obtain additional information regarding our service packages, kindly refer to our comprehensive mixing and mastering service page. Alternatively, for inquiries regarding project-specific revision requirements or any other particular matters, please do not hesitate to contact our audio engineer directly.

Can you fix a bad recording in the mixing process?
While mixing can improve the overall sound of a recording, it cannot fix major issues with the original recording. It's important to ensure that your recordings are of good quality before sending them for mixing.
